Last night I was paying attention to the opening credits and saw ginseng man and wife featured. I guess that means they will stay throughout the series. I hate those two characters! It was strange to see GM smile last night as he remembered his talk with Samsaeng. My daughter has started watching with me. Last drama she was interested in was Smile Donghae. Does anyone else think the "poor" family DOES NOT look like they are starving? Samsaeng actually looks a little plump to me.

I thought the same thing from the onset, if they don't have enough to eat why are they all looking "healthy". I still wish the subs were larger, I miss half the dialog because I can't read it.

The doc's daughter looks almost malnourished and she is in the wealthier household....lol..
grace, is there any way you can change the 'aspect' function on your tv - at least that is what it's called on mine - I can change the size of the picture is reference to the screen - I have four choices and now that I think about it - I used to use the 3rd biggest but with both the daily and weekend dramas I now use the 4th - the biggest- before, that aspect would cut off the esubs but now they fit in and are larger.....

I think that to make Sammy looks "ugly" she looks "fat"(I guess extra layer of clothes), like they did with Boukhui... Now wait a minute, the Doc lives in Seoul, I know they have running water, they have a faucet and a sink in the kitchen, they suppose to be the "middle class family" but they have to wash their faces on a bowl in the patio during the winter? ? are there no bathrooms???

HA!! I noticed that also. They have a faucet in the kitchen, ok if they still have an outhouse but still could have a room with running water to wash. How did these people in those days wash ALL of themselves in private? They must have stunk! I think that about the historicals also...lol..but then again, everyone smelled the same I guess. YUCK...

latina, excellent! Very clear and correct....I think the older girl is Pilsun's daughter....
My only comment is I'm not sure if I would call the Doc middle class and the Insu family the Rich one. I'm not sure what Insu does to make a living and they do live western style but I think the Doc may be just as well off - after all he seems to have a mini hospital and makes traditional medications with a few employees....they were both going to the dressmaker to have clothes made.....I would say the Doc etal is the Traditional Family and Insu etal is the Westernized family....lol....

You're doing better than me, Latina! I'm still trying to figure out that 3rd family and how they fit into it.
Let me see if my plot understanding is correct: Sammy went out to look for a maid job and disappeared. Evil father couldn't care less, still mad over ginseng apparently. Is completely 100% happy living as maid because she has the work ethic of an elf. Notice there is never anyone with a normal work ethic on these "novels": they are either tireless employees who cook, clean and do traditional Korean crafts all day nonstop, or do absolutely no work at all.
Eventually, the mother got upset but went to look for her when she got the letter.
Orphan boy is living with--whom? Western family? Doctor family? And how about Bio Dad? Is he living with the doctor family, or just hanging around them?
And does that western family have anything to do with any of the other characters? Oh, wait, the carbon-monoxide inhaling boy is in love with work-ethicless Geomok? But she's too good for him because she's the doctor's daughter?
No, I don't think that family is all that rich. . .could be wrong.

How does Sammy fit into snob girls clothes??? and they look big on her!
Also, I understand the two girls not recognizing each other but didn't they, at least the snob girl have Sammy's original name...Sammy doesn't say "HEY that used to be MY name." before it got changed when I moved in with Mom then again to thief or what ever her name means now since the ginseng incident. Did no one know what decoy baby's name was at that house? They were 4 when they were seperated, I know my 10 yr old granddaughter remembers her name since she was 4 and remembers my Dad (now passed) playing with her and what he looked like. How could they NOT remember the guy who raised them, his voice and looks are the same. So ridicoulous.

I am so happy for this board - I think that my brain turns off at 9:25 when I turn on the drama....lol....I never even thought about the name issue, grace.......I know Koreans don't use names in addressing others but I don't think that goes so much for kids so I would certainly think the kids had their names used when they were little.....except possibly when the bio father gave the 4 year old kid to the bio mother maybe he didn't even tell her a name and the adoptive family gave her a new name.......but the kid Geumok should have known something was off when she went back to her supposed bio dad, the doc.....also Samsaeng who is so smart should have recognized Mr Sa when she came to the clinic.....this is all too confusing for me...lol....
Another good point about Samsaeng fitting into Geomok's clothes - S is 50% bigger than G....lol....
Probably if I thought more about the dramas I would have stopped watching long ago....

well I think that granny died when the girls were still babies or maybe 1 years old, so Mr. Sa made the change you don't remember your name at 1, so they grow up

I don't even think he knew if he was going to make it out of wherever they went. I guess I have to keep logic in my pocket with these dramas...lol..

Interesting, latina.....I sort of doubt Mr. Sa thought that far ahead either..... grace, keep your logic going - it gives us something to think and talk about.
