Why did she change her name from Samsik to Samsaegi? Was that ever explained properly (or at all, for that matter)? Did she just want a fresh start?
So far, I am liking this better than Love My Love, and I'm trying to not read spoilers. This is what I'm afraid of, though: that it will turn into a combo of Love My Love and My Dear Sister, with Geunok as the shallow sister who becomes an evil/shallow fashion designer/actress and Sammy dedicating her life to traditional Korean crafts/arts/sciences and not marrying the man she loves at the end. Actually, I'd bet money on it. If she winds up happily married to ginseng boy at the end (or whomever her true love is supposed to be), I'll take all of you out for kimchi!

The poor family portrayed in this drama is the poorest I have seen in all my six years of k-drama watching... obviously the clutter brain woman is the real mother of princess Geunok who is supposedly the daughter of the oriental doc.....Not so rich trader's family's relevance to the drama is not clearly established yet excepting the lady harbors dreams of getting her young son hitched to doc's daughter like Mrs. Gopadan Shim of 'Love,my love" did and also Pilsun's supposed involvement with Mr.Sa.. Obviously rich family is of the good doc with his thriving practice and forms the core of the story.... with his beady eyes Mr.Sa comes across as the sleaze ball of this drama..
As a 12 year old Bokhi had to endure a lot of wrath from the family unlike Samsaegi who is getting a great treatment from the doc's family.. however, what binds Bokhi and Samsaegi is their work ethic and cheerful can do attitude towards life...

Samsik.. if thats the name they gave her after the ginseng incident means thief if I read it right with the tiny subs. I don't know if we were ever told what the decoy baby name was that she supposedly had when given back to her mother. I don't think she wanted the name Samsik because of its meaning and changed it to Samsaegi which I don't have a clue what it means. I don't think you will have to treat anyone to Kimchi, I bet your right, same story sort of all over again.

A clue for me that Sammy is going to be at the end the President of the Oriental Medicine Board and single is that the opening of the drama she stands alone, and in the back round is Geomok with an umbrella and the 2 guys...
I'm still think that the Doc's family is middle class because they don't own any beds, don't have bathrooms, not dinner table, just guessing...

Goodness=Koreanness Badness=Westernness
Doc's family is good. Therefore, they shun things like beds, bathrooms, tables, etc. Doc is also an Oriental doctor, which is superior in every way to a Western doctor, with that teeny, tiny exception of when it is transplant time. Nobody really wants a kidney/liver/bone marrow transplant from an herbalist.
People who like the western way of life are in poor taste and need to be taught a lesson, like the shallow sisters on every show and the doctor who married his maid. Tacky, tacky, tacky!

lol...poodlepal.....but the doctor who married the maid, although a western doctor still slept and ate on the floor....;-)
So why is Mr. Sa so worried about realizing who Samsaeng really is - he is the only one who knows that the two girls have been exchanged - even if it comes out that he brought Samsaeng to the Ginseng family the worst that happens is that he was caught in a lie about the baby dying, right? No one alive knows which baby is which at this point - only the deceased Granny and the maid who stole the money back then could possibly have an idea and many years have passed...but also the Ginseng man and wife know that he is the baby's father.....so I guess that would be a pretty big lie so then again he should he worried about that.....oy.....
Also why does the doc need to consult Mr. Sa about keeping Samsaeng and sending her to school....as far as the doc knows she was found out in the street almost frozen.....

The good doc's family with his thriving practice, Bong Pharmaceuticals run by Mr.Sa and chauffeur driven car is easily richest family in this drama...
In Bokhi drama we saw the owner of winery marry the former maid and also in last drama we had western doc swoon over his maid... too early to say, but I would not be surprised if our good doc ends up marrying the pleasant Nanny of our princess Geunok.. as she virtually runs the household...

Three Men And A Baby come to mind, Latina, but I'm not sure that's it.
Has there been anymore flash forwards? Haven't looked in in a while, Pacers got eliminated by the Heat, so I've been bummed, hahaha.

I'm enjoying this one so far--hope it stays good when the inevitable jump forward occurs.
I still don't know why Mr. Sa said his child died. Are we to believe that the "decoy baby" wouldn't work if the poor child lived? So he had to say the child died so why? So everyone could just chillax about Princess's health? Wouldn't it just make more sense for him to bring both children back into Doc's house, since they are all living together? Or even just say that he sent his kid back with her mother? The pretending a kid is dead when she isn't lie is getting old, and it's not necessary here, unless I'm not understanding the rules of evil spirits properly.

lol...poodlepal....he obviously realizes he made a big mistake - particularly since the doc could see how Geumok changed since she was a baby and that Samsaeng is actually weak....
I can't believe he lied like that and Geumok could care less - interesting that he said he will be the only one on her side....very prescient I guess.....
I really didn't like him in tonight's episode at all- I hope it doesn't stay on this very nasty note too much longer....he seems to be a monster and seeing the way he hit Samsaeng in the preview definitely turns me off...

"I can't believe he lied like that and Geumok could care less - interesting that he said he will be the only one on her side....very prescient I guess....."Since this is in the 70's, how will the truth come out? No DNA testing back then. I'm guessing Mr. Sa will confess and all will be forgiven. Maybe he is thinking of telling everyone once she is a grown woman and successful. I really didn't like him in tonight's episode at all- I hope it doesn't stay on this very nasty note too much longer....he seems to be a monster and seeing the way he hit Samsaeng in the preview definitely turns me off...[/quote][/i] Yes strongly agree. We have two real nasty men to hate-Sa and ginseng man. So far the nasty women in my opinion are sister-in- law of woman trying to get her own house (Bokhai maid), Samsaeng's birth mother, and sometimes bossy woman at clinic.

Yes, darla, thanks for agreeing - the more I think about Mr Sa the unhappier I get - he really seems quite menacing - I am trying to remember if I have seen a similar character - not in these TV Novels......the Ginseng Man, to me, although he was quite hateful to Samsaeng actually seemed a bit fond of her when he was thinking back to their time together....maybe he acted really nasty so she would leave for Seoul with less sadness....the nasty women are nice in comparison to the men in this, imo. And the housekeeper/nanny at the doc's is a real sweetheart...

This is 1962--we havent even made the jump yet to the 1970's. Mr. Sa is nasty, Ginseng man is cruel, the other "rich" dude is useless & his son is creepy. The Doc seems to be the only "normal" male. Hopefully, when we make the jump to hyper space and end up in the 1970's they will mellow out because right now there really isnt one sympathetic character.
