I thought the boy went to stay one night with the doctor family and then the poor guy said something about him going to the dormitory?....Bokhui's maid and her daughter live with the poor guy's friend, wife and their two kids.....at least I think so....and as latina said - and how did they get a big house?

The sister in law that Bokhui's maid is living with--is she the young girl who sewed in Bokhui's factory and married the designer guy???

Several people look familiar. I think I'm combining two people here--the friend and the abusive stepfather/herb digger, that's why I'm a little confused.
I fell asleep from the eyestrain, didn't catch much tonight, but what I saw was just more abuse. I hope she remains cocky and doesn't get all demure when the "new" version of herself appears in a few episodes.

It's always confusing getting to know the new characters particularly when they jump twice in time in the first week....lol....
Hopefully we will not have to see the stepfather/herb digger again - how can a grown man talk that way to a child - how sad....
Also that was the first time we ever saw a tram in Seoul - haven't the two previous TV Novels taken place around the same time period?

Hello Grace-Yes, I also am having trouble reading the subs. It's quite annoying since now I have to concentrate on that instead being able to get a glimpse of the show. I am still on the fence about this drama. I used to laugh at the warning regarding 15 and under viewing, but this one isn’t for younger kids. The verbal and physical abuse is appalling to me. Plus playing God with a child's life and future is unreal and cruel. I had a school concert last night that ran long. Can someone post what happened? Thanks I agree. What really bothered me is showing a 12 year old drunk! I know in other countries is common for kids to have a sip of wine/ beer..(I'm Italian) but this was horrible that she was *hit faced drunk in front of that idiot fake father AND he left her there while he went home. The subs are really bad , I agree I'm trying to figure out what they are saying and miss the scene. I have a feeling I am going to bail out on this one. I have ep 1-50 downloaded with subs I may just fast foward and see what happens, if it gets somewhat better then I'll catch up.

Question... When poor Dad left the Doc's daughter at nut hut...she was the youngest. I only saw the older girl and the boy. Until they showed the older daughter for 5 min who wanted to get married and was a maid it confused me , it seemed that Doc's kid was the oldest...where did the young girl with a cough come from...she had another kid?? They just throw these people in without explaining.

When Sammie was left at the nut hut, they had two kids--an older girl and the goofy looking son. The oldest girl was sent to work as a maid and wants to get married. In the 8 year fast forward, Ginseng man and terrible Mom had another little girl who is now 6.

Yes, I was going to say the same as dodgerman.... And, dodgerman, that woman does look familiar but I haven't yet figured out from which previous drama.....I just checked asianwiki and if you mean this woman, she was King Geunchogo's Mum....the second wife of the first king....lol.... asianwiki.com/Kim_Do-Yeon_%281966%29

In King Geunchogo I thought she was very pretty and refined and in this she is completely different - I think that's why I couldn't figure out who she was at first....

I was sort of hoping Samsik or whatever her name is since she appeared to change it during this episode would run into Bokhui or Mr. Hong.....lol....didn't Bokhui run away to Seoul at about the same age and time in Korean history....

Geumnok (sp?) certainly takes after her birth mother - Ginseng Man's wife - she is a real nasty one. And Samsaeng is sweet, loving and very capable like her father the doctor.....

Thanks, Mara. Now I get the drift of this k-drama.... For some reason the good doctor's assistant Mr.Sa switched his real daughter at the age of 4 years... and our heroine Samsaeng grows up poor and eventually becomes an Oriental doctor because of her genes.. we will get all the twists and turns in future episodes.
In last nite's episode there was talk about getting a TV and Korea was trying to import from Japan and USA. Ironically, I was watching all this on my Korean made SAMSUNG TV... Wow.. what a turn around in 40 years... by the way, does any one make TVs in the U.S.A today...
