Good episode last night....but I am confused as usual as to who knows what - I know that Sukjee knows her mom knows Chanwoo but not sure if she realizes he is her wedding prospect...and vice versa - I don't think Chanwoo knows that Sukjee is the Chairlady's daughter.
And Wank-ki, the gangster uncle and his cronies, did not know that Director Sung is Chanwoo - seems that way. So I hope CW doesn't get hurt....oy.....
And Sukjin, a man of principle....he obviously went away to think if he should tell Hyokyung or not about Chanhyuk being alive.....
Yes, this is a fine drama! Hope I am not disappointed with the last five episodes....

So glad to see Chanwoo beating out Wan-ki.....yay! So Mr. Lee is going to ask the Chairlady to do him a favor and let him have the bid....why should she?

I was a bit disappointed to see that Dongpal purchased Chanhyuk's painting - not really giving him a chance to see if a stranger would buy it....lol....
Chanwoo doesn't want to give up the bid - who can blame him - looks like he is trying something or other....
Well, Sukjin is the man- told the truth even though he knew it would probably hurt his chances with Hyokyung.
So Chanwoo didn't know that Sukhee is Sukjin's sister....and of course, her relationship with everyone else as well as being the daughter of Chairlady Jun who wanted to fix them up....
Three more episodes...I'm getting nervous. ;-)

I am no longer paying attention to any subplot about any sort of business deal that just springs up and takes over a Korean drama. That means that I am barely paying attention to either drama at the moment. I wish they would just focus on the love stories and forget this bidding on the casino or whatever.
Overall, with three episodes left, my assessment is that I liked this show, but didn't love it. It was better than the sword dramas, which I find too violent (though, of course, your mileage may vary), but not up to the level of Three Brothers or Infamous Chill Sisters.
Like Eunhui, there were too many subplots, and I had difficulty differentiating the characters throughout the show, not just in the first few episodes of a show, like I usually do. Every female character had the same hairdo during every era, and they changed them frequently. The biggest problem was that Hyokyung didn't seem to be worth fighting for. I found her sort of selfish, although maybe anyone would be compared to those "Novel Girls."
I loved the warmth conveyed by the family, though. They always stuck together no matter what bad thing happened to them.

Oh boy - I thought Shinja and Hyokyung were going to run into each other....
I agree, poodlepal, all three of the women have the same hairdo at this point, and it's a bit difficult to tell them apart....particularly in the dark...lol.
Nobody ever seems to take any personal responsibility....Uncle Wanki says the reason his BIL passed out was because of Chanwoo and the loss of the casino bid....excuse me.....
Yes, the family warmth was evident throughout....

Anybody know the name of the Saxophone solo music used as a background mood theme in the later episodes of First Love? It sounds like Kenny G.
The other selections, Forever by Stratovarius and the Dead are Dancing by Toni Childs are haunting but somewhat odd choices if you listen to the lyrics. Thanks

I also have gotten into the strange music of this drama - thanks for the info that you gave - sorry but I don't know the name. I have never seen anything other than Korean writing in the credits. I think I once did a search for the OST but I didn't find anything as it is such an old drama....

I take it back, uxdabob - there is some info if you do a search for the OST - there seems to be a CD but it is out of stock on yesasia and the other sites are mostly in Vietnamese but maybe you can get some clues or further leads....

Finally, a good episode focusing more on the relationships and less on the business. I'll miss the grand finale, most watched show of all time, probably. Hope I can find it online. Why did it have to end on a day dedicated to eating out?

poodlepal, I watched the last episode on alodrama - it was a bit difficult as I had to keep reloading it - but with some patience I saw the whole episode which btw lasted over 60 minutes so I am wondering if those of you watching on WMBC are going to have a lot of cuts.... Of course it could have been an issue with my time and location as the last third loaded quickly..... www.alodrama.com/watch-first-love-episode-1/13225.html

What Chanwoo is doing to Mr Lee and Wanki reminds me of what the VP in Eunhui is doing to Cha - basically avenging the wrong done to his family.....

This should be over now on WMBC...lol.....
I really enjoyed this drama - I just reread some of my early posts and I was not thrilled then but it certainly grew on me....plus compared to the weekday drama I guess made it even better.....
As usual it seemed the ending was rushed, we never saw what happened to Chanwoo's friend from school and the BIL and his lady friends' issues never came out again...
But as far as family values it was really lovely imo - the main family was always supportive to each other and rarely had disagreements. And even the gangster family stuck together as did the Chairwoman and her two kids. The only one really who was estranged from her family was Shinja.....
Even though at the end Chanwoo made a little speech to himself I think about the ending of one love and the beginning of another, I thought by seeing Hyokyung out by Chanhyuk's easel by the water during the credits that there was some ambiguity as far as whether or not they got together.
And as far as some spoilers I read accidentally they were completely wrong....

Well, that was mediocre. Nothing like an ambiguous ending.
I literally, by the end of this show, could not tell any of the three main female characters apart. They had the exact same hairdo, and more or less the same face (probably due to plastic surgery). I was not even sure which character was there next to the easel at the end.
And what happened to guitar man? He was cut out of all or most of the episode.
A pretty good show, but a blah finale. I wonder what will come next, probably a sword and king drama again.

This novel grew on me also, well whatever I could see in the lighter frames...lol...I loved the family values they showed throughout. I was happy Chanwoo got out of the "business" and went back to his roots and promise to his very nice boss. Sukjin is a stand up guy, I liked his character a lot, a true friend. I didn't like the ending at all, Hyokyung is selfish. I know her father died and he was the one that was against the relationship but still Chanhyuk made it clear to stay away she should have respected that.
Surprise next weekend? I can't find anything on WMBC site about whats coming up.
