This is set during the time just before the Goryeo dynasty was about to fall. The noble class was corrupt and parasitic, the government ineffective in protecting the citizens, famine. If any situation was ripe for regime change, this was it.

With the beards and wacky hats, everyone looks the same. Who is good??? Who is bad??? I only know two things for sure so far: 1-It is 8 years ago 2-There is no girl disguised as a boy

I wonder if having moms feed piglets could have really happened...disgusting.... Regime change...sounds good, madman999... I looked it up, sounded far fetched and kind of disgusting. I don't know if it was made up but I think they wanted to illustrate the disconnect between the noble classes and the peasants. Sounds kind of shades of the French Revolution!

It's very obvious what's going on:
Young Master and his Bro were sword fighting. A man came and Dad cut off his head, whole. Immediately after, Dad got a new job, where they all went through this shanty town. Young Master met the ragamuffin siblings and their cute friend. The ragamuffins' mother was kidnaped and made to nurse a piglet, while her own baby starved to death. Young Master threw the piglet to the poor. Dad didn't do anything about the piglet nannies. Where were the real mother pigs? Couldn't they leave them alive for a while, or did they need that ham that badly? They don't say. Why were they eating ham and suckling pig? Why not have a beef or chicken or vegetarian dish? It's never explained. Clearly there are no Jewish or Muslim people in Goryeo.
Dad, the Goofy Heads, and the Fabulously Gay Swordsman all watched the play, and I think Young Master did, too. And you're right, this was all eight years ago.
So far, so good. The play was a lot better than the "musical" without a plot in "Melody of Love" and the ragamuffins are almost as plucky as Samsaeng and Bokhui, so we're off to a good start.

Glad you like it so far, poodlepal.....thanks for clarifying...I sort of know those folks - it's some of the others that confuse me....but I'll figure it out.
I love the Gay Swordsman - his eye makeup is cool, have you seen his more masculine twin bro yet?

I guess it's cheating but on the asianwiki page there is a picture with six people, presumably the flying dragons and one of them is the Young Master's dad, I thought he was named as a Flying Dragon in the first episode....
I am confused with the three younger guys....it's annoying when they go from child to adult actors....
I sort of thought the boy who went looking for his mom along with his sister, now Boon Yi, grew into the swordsman but I guess I am mistaken....

Boon Yi's brother Ddang Sae, after leaving the village goes off to become a swordsman called the Viper. He is busy fighting Japanese pirates and performing singing shows in his spare time.
A key issue at this time was that Korea is constantly getting invaded by the Japanese, Mongols and the Ming. Plus others. The government is not doing their job but they are confiscating land and rice to feed further their soldiers. As a result, lots of starvation. The nobles are also stealing land from their own people.
The government is not strong or centralized. Like medieval Europe, it's based on Feudalism. The nobles with soldiers pledge loyalty to the king. But they are in control.

Say hello to Young Master for me.
I am out until June. I can't watch an hour long show due to work constraints. I am going to watch Two Mothers on my own, but already I've fallen 2 behind on that too.
It's been great, hope to be back in the summer.
