This takes place in a time period of Korean history shortly before Gwanggaeto - hope it's a good one.

So this should be DD's Grandad? In King of Legend/Geunchogo series, this looks at the story from the Baekje side (the good guys in this)... in this, Goguryeo are portrayed as the bad guys. The antagonist in this series that Geunchogo fights, is DD's Grandad.

Thanks to both of you. After umpteen years of Goguryeo as the good guys I don't know how I'll take this lol.

This historical drama chronicles the life of Bu Yeogu, also known as King Geunchogo, the 13th king of Baekje. He transformed Baekje from a small naval state to an empire almost as powerful as Koguryeo. He is King Asin's (from Gwanggaeto) great grandfather. The primary antagonist of the drama is the extremely arrogant and violent Koguryeo king Gogukwon, who is also Gwanggaeto's grandfather. You will see a few familier characters in this drama, including a very young prince Murong Chui (played by none other than Asin's brother), Gwanggaeto's father briefly, and also an young general Ko Mu. The Yan empire also serves a role in this tale.

Yes I am.
I think those who got tired of the constant battles of Gwanggaeto will like the political intruige in this film. Also, the antagonist, the Koguryeo King, who goes by Sayu in this drama, is absolutely fantastic. So deliciously brash. He knows he rules a large state and never forgets to show it off. His disrespect of Geunchogo's father is a sight to behold.

Yes, I think I got tired of all the battles towards the end of Gwanggaeto - some political stuff will be nice....it was like that at the beginning but once DD became King it sort of stopped.....

This is also the only KBS historical drama in recent memory to feature historically accurate armors -- if you care about details like that. Gwanggaeto and even DJY used largely fantastical armors.
I also neglected to mention that the mohe/malgal are also in the drama. This time swearing by the Baekje. Quite a difference from Gwanggaeto.

Welcome Contraband. I dont know why they didnt do this one first. At least it will give some historical background to Baekje & wacky Asin. It will be weird for the Gorgoyeo dudes to be the bad guys--after Iron Empress, King Sejong & Damdeok.
