myoko thanks!, you gave me so hope, lol. even we had a washing machine on the 70's, well I'm from the capital, but my husband who is from Central America and grow up on a farm (even though for Americans, Central America doesn't exist, for them is part of South America, which is not correct, put that is another story) his family didn't have a washing mashine or a shower....

I learned a new Korean word last night. Na--nee is Korean for slave Bingo! you took the words right outta my mouth! I really wish Bokhui would smack the mess out of that maid! She really is a nasty woman, and hope that Dalbong falls for that nurse instead of her. She certainly doesn't deserve a good guy like him. That doctors wife is really something too, is she still holding a flame for winery owner? I mean come on get over it you lost to your best friend and married a doctor and have a son, if that doesn't get you over it nothing will. She seems like she wants to spit nails at Maidwife for marrying him. Oh and that sister in law with the loveable loser husband just needs a good smack. Sorry for all the violent talk

Hi folks - I just got home from Japan - had a great trip. I see we have some new or rejoined members - that's great. I will watch it tonight and see if by reading this thread I can figure out what's going on as I don't have the patience to watch two weeks' worth online....

Well, Mara, this is it in a nutshell: Mother abandoned daughter Bokhui, who had a step or half brother. They were both orphaned or abandoned. Bokhui and bro wen to live with her mother, but pretended she was their aunt. She's a second wife to a rich guy and beaten down by her mother in law (surprised at that turn of events, are you?) The brother was sent to an orphange, and now Bokhui is now a nanny slave and living with an evil maid.
There is also a middle-class family of a doctor and nurse, and two orphaned bachelors who are nice.
It's difficult to watch as they just pour abuse on this poor girl endlessly. All she wants to do is memorize her times table. Also, her stepsister/cousin is stalking her teacher, and there's another sister who is nicer but jealous. Not much plot, just nonstop meanness towards this poor orphan.

YW latina. (And I do remember learning in History that Central and South America are indeed separate!)

The second half of last night's show was a repeat of a show we had earlier this week. I guess they screwed up the tapes. This show is really hard to watch. Bokhui & her Mom are so beaten down they dont even protest to their treatment. This better get lighter when it fasts forward.

I skipped ahead and watched episode 30, I think--it's readily available online--and since I don't want to have to move anything to a spoiler folder, I won't get into detail, but it was still pretty heavy. No abuse, but one character kept whining and crying over nothing, really.

What gets me is that a very wealthy family who owns the brewery washes their clothes in a pond! I don't know what ponds are like in Korea, but in the US they are filled with algae and copepods. Your clothes would get dirtier. Actually, they don't seem to have any running water at all, but they have record players to listen to Cliff Richard albums. I'd unplug the electronics and get some useful appliances if I were the brewery owner.

Poodlepal, how could they have running water -- that would mean the studio would finally have to spring for a new set!

True, true. So hard to hook up a working sink on a set, apparently. This show is becoming unbearable.
Here's my prediction for the next episode Evil maid: I locked Bokhui in the shed. She was looking at me. Evil younger woman: Oh no! The shed is on fire!
The next day: Evil maid: Lassie, get out of bed. How dare you languish in the burn unit? You think you're so great because you get to rest after your skin graft? Evil Grandma: Get up! Take those bandages off and scrub the floor! And stop crying. Nobody cares if you have third degree burns over 98% of your body! Geumja: I never get to lay in a hospital bed! I have to go to school! It's all the fault of that woman. Spaghetti Spine Mother: Oh, oh. . . Spaghetti Spine Father: Oh, oh. . . I guess you have to paint the entire house, sew five hanboks and rewire Geumja's record player, despite the fact that you've gone blind and deaf. I hope you do a good job, otherwise off to the orphanage! Bokhui: 1 x1=1, 2x2=4

HAHAHAHAHAHA, Poodlepal, that helped a lot. This drama really is getting unbearable for me now; the whole 'Bokhui's a thief' part was swear-inducing.
