Hi everyone! I'm just back from my trip to Seattle and Alaska - had a great time and am now catching up on the new dramas. So far I've watched the first two episodes of this one - wow, so many familiar faces. I'm not sure if someone mentioned the father who delivers cabbages - he was the father of the young artist on Mom Got Horns - the one that lived in the house with her mom adjacent to the rest of the family....he just appeared briefly. And the brother-in-law? of the cabbage man, Kim Yoo Suk, was the doctor in my favorite drama, Thank You Life - haven't seen him in anything since that which was years ago.....

Thanks, latina and Linda! Yes, Linda, they are one and the same - so many of these shows have more than one name - I forget which ones we are used to seeing......

I think the hot guy is way too hot for Saewe, but for the cook (I hope she get back her job after almost poison Carl' mom) it would be better match. I have a crazy thought - Carl's mom not really his mom, it just a sister, she supposed to be not normal than how could she get marry and have kid - Carl? May be this woman's adopted mom just said it to her, and make Carl to call her mom, actually, both of them are sister and brother, she just way too young to be a mom and Carl is way too old to be a teen only.

Well , there is not need to get married to have a kid, or be "normal" said that she is in her late forties, and Carl is like early twenties....it' possible...

Ok, mara, I only saw a few episodes of that too. I remember one of the girls in there heard voices or something and that kinda scared me away lol. I had to laugh when they said Anna looked like she was in her late 40s. No way does she look it. Haemi on the other hand looks like she's in her late 40s, even mid 50s. Saewe's facial expressions are already killing me, lol. I don't know if it's just her style of acting or if she's a newbie and just nervous. Lawyer wannabe looks like Chicken Little .

OK, I saw episode 1 and it clears up a lot of confusing relations. Correct me if I'm wrong:
There are 4 families, as there are in most K-Dramas: Rich, Upper Middle Class Pretentious, Lower Middle Class, and dirt poor/orphan/troubled.
Rich family: Kim Jun (formerly Pungu, with a dye job) who runs the station. Mrs. Kim (the nice mom from YAMD?) who runs the hotel. One son, the guy with pointy fake sideburns.
Pretentious family: Mom is Haemi, two daughters who are very common K-Drama characters: Ambitious, not that nice daughter (Saewa), and silly daughter, who is pregnant.
Lower Middle Class Family: Bongi the chef, her brother is the law student who got Silly Daughter Pregnant (His name is Taewa, don't know silly's real name yet). There is also a widowed uncle and little girl. Mom is stepmom from 3 Bros., Dad is failed kim-chi businessman.
Poor/Pathetic family: Carl and his mother Anna. This family is one of the most pathetic I've seen yet, making the Ohbok family from Happiness seem like the Brady Bunch.
Mom seems to have Aspbergers' Syndrome, son was raised in America by a woman raised in America, but doesn't speak fluent English. That's OK, because his Caucasian teammate speaks with a very thick Korean accent, too.
(I remain fascinated by these white Koreans. I didn't know they had that many--no, I didn't know they had any at all-- but one or two seems to show up in every show. I guess Korea is so nice that some people move there and raise their kids there and Korean is their first language?) But I digress.
Anyway: Poorish family hates rich family over some expose of the kimchi factory. When their daughter falls in love with rich son, there will be a problem.
Poorish family hates Pretentious family. Already the son of one got the daughter of the other pregnant, so here's a problem.
Rich guy who is possibly Carl's father is guilty of statutory rape, unless the brain damage to Anna occurred later in life. How could she give any kind of consent in her condition? Yuck.
Any corrections?

poodlepal - how great a summary you have written! ;D Sounds right to me!
That's amazing you can figure all that out after just watching one episode - it always takes me time to figure out the relationships. I am always too busy trying to remember where I know the various actors from.....

I don't understand how Anna got knocked up too. I mean, I know what it takes lol, but how exactly did it transpire when I'm of the understanding that she's been mentally challenged since her adoption at 6. Blah, it's confusing. Would it be statutory rape though? Anna's in her late 40s and Carl's in his early 20s or something.
Lt. Bak or hot guy is annoying. He was way hotter in 3 Bros.

I did some research about the rules against sex with persons with disabilities like Anna has. It's kind of a gray area, depending on how bad the disabled person is. If the person is very bad, and cannot possibly comprehend sex or pregnancy, (and therefore, cannot consent), it is considered not statutory, but full-on rape. It depends on the "mental age" of the person with the disability. (These are US laws, of course. I have no idea if it's different in Korea, but I assume the laws would be similar).
One guy was prosecuted for having sex with his fiance, who was mentally the age of 9. The prosecution's expert said she was incapable of giving consent. She stuck by her boyfriend (who was also a little "slow"), and he was acquitted. I suppose in this case, they were sort of equal in the jury's eyes.
Anna seems very naive and childlike, and Kim Jun is not. I can't imagine how it would be legal or moral for him to impregnate her if she was then as confused as she is today. Maybe she's getting progressively worse as the years go by? Also, is Carl supposed to be several years older than Lt. Bak? Is he Mrs. Hotel's son from a previous marriage? I can't imagine the kind Pungu from Pure in Heart going around, taking advantage of the mentally incompetent and cheating on his wife. There must be some sort of explanation for all this.

Awesome info, poodlepal, thanks. With this, Kim Jun just seems creepier now. I'm hoping for a really good explanation too, but something tells me either the issue is going to be ignored or we're going to be scratching our heads when we here the story, lol.
