..... I am getting used to the slow pacing of the TV Novel. Different from Evening TV dramas where things are resolved in 60 minutes, or a 2 hour movie..... tomw, I assume you are talking about American TV dramas....I haven't watched any in years. But compared to most of the Korean dramas I think this is fairly typical as far as the pace - before WMBC started showing the TV novels, we saw the regular weekly evening dramas, KBS for the most part. They often ran 150 or more episodes but they were contemporary with cell phones and short skirts that dodgerman is fond of....lol. This genre of TV Novel from the little I know is shown in the morning in Korea and therefore viewed by the older women/housewives who are home during the day. So far they all have taken place pretty much in the 1970's and often begin with the war.

Welcome back, Tom! You hit the nail on the head. What I love about Korean dramas (and would probably like about Spanish novelas, too, if they were subbed) is that the happy ending isn't messed up. With the never-ending soap operas, there's no resolution. Luke and Laura get married (Gen. Hosp, 1981)? Great. But the show goes on, so whaddya know, they're splitting up/dying/ whatever the next year. Korean dramas end just at the right time. We don't have to see the resolution of Sammy marrying Dongwoo, only to have them split up or fight the next year because they need another plot twist.
Would not be surprised to see a big makeover of Eunhui, after she's found not to be a murderer's daughter. This seems to be a rare example of a show where everyone knows who their biological parents are--but there are plot twists to come!

poodlepal, I was thinking the same thing - how often does everyone know their real parents....lol....
And as far as Granny mourning her son - obviously it is horrible to have lost him...otoh Mr Cha seems like a much better son....if I recall correctly Mr Im was similar to the nephew - out drinking and carousing all the time - that factory was run by Eunhui's father....

If the drama is based on premise that cop from old town after 20 year hiatus comes looking for who killed good for nothing drunkard Mr.Im on that fateful night, then the whole drama is on the thin ice. During the Korean turmoil in early 1950s, thousands were killed or missing and many went unaccounted for. It is pathetic to see that cop has not moved up in all these 20 years and managed to get transferred to Seoul from that small town.
Latina, Granny based on circumstantial evidence believes that it was Eunhui's dad who killed her drunken good for nothing son Mr.Im. Only other person who knows truth is Mr.Cha and for good reasons he can not rock the boat..

sara79, I didn't get the idea that the cop was working on the case of Mr. Im.....I thought it was something entirely different.....of course, I certainly could be wrong.....

Sara's right, he met Mr. Cha in the market and recognized him right away. I guess he didn't have many cases at the time or even now. Cha got nervous, since he is guilty I guess he feels everyone that was involved at the time is looking at him, guilt does that. Don't think cop guy is working on the case though, I think it was just a surprise meeting.

sara79, mara, grace, I think the cop is looking for somebody else, somebody who commited a crime in Seoul a went to that town, Mr. Im murdered was resolved by getting Eunhui's father, now he's dead, case closed. Is Mr. Lee ( Korean Kramer from Seinfeld, lol) making an investment on Korean Soprano guy's company???, why did he gave the money that he stole to him?

Latina, I like calling the good for nothing cheat the Korean Kramer (in fairness, Seinfeld Kramer was not a cheat but a moocher and lived in his own La La land)... this fellow gave the money to Soprano guy to make some real estate deal... yeah, it will be one of those " I am selling Brooklyn Bridge and would you like a piece of that" deals...

Yeah but with the Brooklyn Bridge you get to go to a hot spring with Ms. Makeup face! That in itself makes it a great deal, even without the receipt he will never get...lol... Thanks Latina on the explaination.

Mr. Lee is awful, but I think that Granny and Mr.Cha are sort of on to him. Does anyone besides me think that Mr. Cha is Eunhee's father? I can't believe there's not some parental mixup on this show.

poodlepal...no I don't think Cha Cha is the father. Its just the guilt he has that in a way he killed her father. They showed their friendship in the onset of the show, there didn't seem to by any romantic connection.

Thanks sara79, I called him Kramer because when he stole the money he kind made the same movements as Kramer, lol.
poodlepal, I thought last night that maybe Yeosung, Mr. Cha daughter and Eunhui were exchange as babies, but they are not the same age, I have the same feeling that he might be her father when he asked who named her...

I thought I saw something that implied that there was a parental mixup with someone, but I didn't want to read spoilers (or give any accidentally) so I'm not sure. There was sort of a brother/not a brother conundrum, like the hanbok girl had two shows ago, though maybe it was between photography boy and braid girl, who are sort of siblings but she still has a crush on him anyway.

Where would we be without some parental/sibling issue..lol...
Yes, the braid girl seems overly interested in Seongtae but they are not blood siblings, and Jeongtae seems pretty interested in Eunhui, more than a 'brotherly' interest....
I don't recall the previous TV Novels having such long flashbacks - this one already has had at least two of them and neither do I recall a narrator like this one does....
