I know the women of the house get very frustrated with their situations of being the 'house slave', as Umi said, for the how many years they've been married or they're just too rich and snobbish and think their sons are too good for any woman they marry (less she's rich, of course), then they take it out on the poor DILs once the wedding's over and they move in.
But of all the vicious MILs we've seen in k-dramas so far, which one is the most vile to you? I haven't watched much in their entirety, but off the bat, I pick the one from You Are My Destiny.
Great idea, brook ;D.

Was she the one who locked Saybeok (sp?) out of the house and then told her to hand-wash all the quilts in the back yard in freezing weather? Oh, and she told her to make kimchee from 100 heads of cabbage. If that's the one, she has my vote too.

This thread has prompted me to do some research and make a list of all the kdramas I have seen....it starts with Bizarre Bunch......unfortunately, they sort of meld together in my mind and I have a hard time separating them particularly due to the fact that so many of them have the same actors. I think the one eastnewyorker and puppy mentioned definitely is way up there - that poor young girl practically got pneumonia. But the worst thing was the husband not realizing what was going on..... Another one, I'm not sure which, but it was quite a while back, had the MIL known on some boards as Narazilla - do you all remember that one - she was pretty bad also......I think it was Bizarre Bunch. Another problem when trying to remember the dramas is that they often have more than one name depending on the translation plus the actors' names are often so similar.....

Yes, puppy, Empress Wu Zetian.
I've heard the name Bizarre Bunch but never had the pleasure of watching it, Mara.
My pick would have to be the one from Likeable or Not. I admit that doormat dongji could've defended herself a bit better because I always believe that older DILs should have more of a voice, but that MIL was terrible. She was well along in years and should've been calm and peaceful due to her health, but no.

I couldn't imagine bringing a wife home to those conditions because to be fair, this MIL did show her true colours from the get go. mara, I've never seen Bizarre Bunch, but the fact that zilla was added to her name says a lot . Another one that was cruel was the one from Mom's Dead Upset, Mrs. Mun was it?

.....Another one that was cruel was the one from Mom's Dead Upset, Mrs. Mun was it? This took me a bit of research, enyer, (I hope you don't mind a nickname) - you mean, I think, Go Eunah, the mother of the college student and MIL of the young woman who worked at their company. Mrs. Mun was what they called the housekeeper - even the bird called her by that name - I never quite understood why they all did that. ;D She was the MIL who felt that the DIL was so culturally lacking - she played classical music and dragged her to concerts and museum exhibits......at least she didn't make her do housework as far as I remember.....other than bring a glass of iced tea now and then.....

Afer last nite, we have to add Junwu's Toad Mom. Maybe Yunjeong got away just in time.

Right, puppy, she really went off on Grandma.......that seemed a bit over the top to me. From the time when she wanted Yunjeong to pretend she had never been married, she looked like she would definitely be a problem MIL....

This woman is crazy. Adding her to the drama and then making her this overly self-righteous, pain in the neck is like pouring salt on a wound after you already wiped it with bay rum.
