I find the three women - Seunga, Seryeong and PDB's mom - to be really unpleasant - each thinking of only herself and completely uncaring imo. The other women, Mom, Granny, Aunt, cute kid's Mom - aren't good enough to outweigh the nasty ones. And Seunghye is just sort of blah - always looking down and apologizing.....not committing herself....
Maybe that has something to do with what's missing, poodlepal....

Getting back to dodgerman's comment about Seunghye not telling PDB about his mom's involvement with the tea switch - of course, now it's too late....but the three I mentioned above all tell lies to hurt others whereas Seunghye was actually trying to protect PDB....
The aunt and the OB/GYN are a cute couple....

Seunga tells Suenghye that she was the one who switched the tea and no one helped her. My first question to her would be --- where did you get the bad tea from?

Everyone on this show is just very blah. There are too many villains with unrelated goals. I have studied some fiction writing rules and this show violates many of them. I am not necessarily a fan of these rules--IMO, they lead to a lot of very similar shows and books and make things sort of cookie-cutter--but with this show, I think they have a point.
Everyone should have a goal. Nobody on this show does. PDB--wants to be a pastry chef, but when his mother closes down his shop, he's like, eh. I'll be a doctor. Compare that to Computer Boy on Pure In Heart, who left his father's company, shouting, "I'll make them appreciate my content!" Of course, he came back a few episodes later, but still.
Seungye: Wants to be a nurse. No wait, a coffee woman. No wait, a tea woman. No wait, a pastry woman.
Evil Tea Woman: Wants to steal what appears to be an unimpressive Korean suburban home with a courtyard, a couple of bedrooms, etc. Why does she want this vague house when she's rich? Who the Hell knows? Revenge over something.
Well, the kimchi is ready, have to cut this short. I'll be back if I remember that I even watch this show or stay awake.

OK, stayed awake for 2 consecutive episodes.
* That coloring book is racist. Can you imagine if a non-Asian drew Koreans with eyes like that, LOL! Because she made this coloring book years ago, everyone has finally forgiven her for accidentally spilling tea on her sister. Yes, indeed.
*Everyone is obsessed with this family in a bad way. Three separate women are out to get Seungye for three separate reasons (fighting over a man, revenge over something, anger over a burn scar). No two people have the same motivation for getting them.
* Conversely, three sets of people gave them huge sums of money, which they must pay or give back.
* I like coffee boy--I like those suburb 80's woven bracelets he seems to wear. PDB is bland.
Kimchi is ready. Gotta go

Wow, good for you, poodlepal, and making kimchi at the same time. ;-) Yes, I feel sorry for poor Seunghye - they're all after her, but it seems like the brat sister is finally giving up her grudge. Well, I don't really think the coloring book is racist....lol....plus she was a little girl when she made it. Still can't believe Granny threw her out. Didn't we have another drama with a scar issue - one of the TV Novels.... Yes, CB is the cutest...he's only been in a few dramas: asianwiki.com/Go_Yoon

Another disappointing half hour dopey drama. Half way done with nothing to show. A passive, apologetic heroine, loved by 2 boys, evil Mom, evil girl with one-sided crush, bratty younger sister, peripheral people who have little to do with the plot line. We have seen all of these aspects before and done better. I know it is supposed to have a plot twist at 61. It it doesnt get better, I am done with these half hour shows and I will stick to the better hour long dramas.

I don't disagree - but after ten years of watching the half hour dramas it will be hard to quit....too bad we can't find a decent one....

Do you think they are going downhill, or do you think it's burnout on our parts? I remember the first time I saw Bizarre Bunch, how different it seemed. The secret son getting a transplant from his biological mother! The rejection by a mother-in-law! I didn't know these were staples of every Korean drama ever made.
Maybe we should rewatch one that we have fond memories of and see if it now seems stale or not as good.

The folks over at CJKDramas board are re-watching BB. They started in October, I think. The new discussion has some 30 odd pages and the old discussion which is still active on the front page there has over 670 pages....lol. They really got into it for sure.
I don't know honestly if they are going downhill or if they are basically all the same....

Is Bizarre Bunch online? That one does seem to touch a nerve with many people, although it could be the first one that was widely available.
All genres go stale. How I used to love Christmas movies, especially with magical realism. Show me a career woman who turns nice after an encounter with three ghosts, a depressed person who learns to love life like George Bailey, a person who suffers Christmas every day like Groundhog's Day or a person who magically got a wish granted only to learn to be careful about wishing--I'd be there right on the couch watching.
Today, there are so many movies like this it's not funny. Most of them are just realistic movies, but the market is flooded, and none of them seem as good as Comfort and Joy or The Christmas List or Ebbie or the ones from the late 90's or early 2000's.
I hate most of the hour long Korean dramas, except for the ones they useed to show like Three Brothers. They all have some dark or weird element. I saw two episodes of I am Your Teacher, and there was like Crouching Tiger fighting scenes on it. Miss Korea was odd, Pinocchio was odd, Emergency Couple was odd, Forget High School Love On--odder than odd.

CJKdramas board folks listed different sites where it could be viewed - I didn't really pay that much attention....
I guess we have different tastes, poodlepal...I have enjoyed most of the hour long dramas that dodgerman and I have watched as well as ones I watched on my own - some of the ones you listed.
Three Brothers was enjoyable as were most of the others I saw - Farewell to Tears, Thank You Life, Chill Sisters, Mom's Dead Upset and then the historical ones starting with DaeJoYoung.....I have them all listed. ;-)
Those do seem to be different than the ones I have watched recently....more family oriented back then. Now more violence and blood...
