Well, Iron Empress was Koryo, not Koguryeo. And Sejong was Choseon, Koryo's successor.

Thanks, contraband, for all the info about the different Korean clans - is that the right word, probably not? I know from time to time I have downloaded different pages from the 'net with info on Korean history but I have never got them straight......what we need is a nice chart - any volunteers?

Well, you have the three Kingdoms period which consist of:
Koguryeo (37BCE - 668 CE)
Baekje (18 - 660 CE)
Silla (57 - 935 CE)
The north-south period:
Balhae (698 - 926 CE)
Unified Shilla (668 - 935)
The later three Kingdoms period (892 - 936)
Later Koguryeo /Koryo
Later Baekje
Shilla
And then you have the unified Korean dynasties of
Koryo (918 - 1392)
And Choseon (1392 - 1897)
Empire of Korea (1897 - 1910)
Colonial Korea (1910 - 1945)
North and South Korea (1948 - present)

Well, I must say I haven't the foggiest idea what's going on....I need to do some reading or even re-watching it. Plus it seems they didn't put that many people's names in English when it seemed like they were subbed in Korean.....whatever, it did look sort of exciting and a bunch of familiar faces, for sure.....

3 guys shirtless within the first 10 minutes, what a treat. I'll get my husband to post here soon for sure lol!
-I learnt that Balkji was founded by a woman scorned by a Goguryean King. I enjoyed seeing that guy as the Goguryean King and Mrs. CEO from Donghae.

Lot of familiar faces---The Baekje founding lady was the Irn Empress & the King who kicks her out was on of the IE's min isters. The Eorhaha?? in the current time is Ha Muji from DD and a couple of the generals looked familiar.

Indeed grace lol.
-Junpei from that mini series about Freedom Fighter Lee Hoe Young was also seen and I almost fainted when he did that sword dance. I remembered DD and Murong Bao engaging in one.

I re-watched the first episode on dramafever.com - the first few episodes are an hour and 3 or 4 minutes so there were some scenes cut out - the esubs are a bit better and give the characters' names so it was a little easier to follow....not that I figured out much more than I knew last night.... ;-) Yes, myoko, I recognized the sword dancer but didn't know from which drama - you are really good at identifying these actors....very impressive...
